![]() It seems like some critical communication path is not open between us. This might explain the broken symmetry: he can be a client to my game server, but I can't connect to him when he tries to be the server. I think the trouble lies in the possibility that I didn't map all the correct ports to NAT in his router. (I'll double check this at his house next week.) I'm pretty certain that I disabled XP's firewall on his end and I tell him to turn off Zone Alarm on his end. Like I said, I think the problem is really on my friend's end. I have another machine with Win2k and I make certain I shut off Zone Alarm whenever I game from that machine.īut those are my machines. Yes, I am aware of the firewall that ships with XP and I have that turned off whenever I am gaming. When I host a game for this friend to join, he can't see the players who've joined me inside my LAN and they can't see him. There is another problem which might be related. So is this what's going on? Or is it something else? This seems simpler, and perhaps safer, then remembering a long list of specific ports and leaving them visible in NAT on a semipermanent basis.) (Yes, I am well aware that is risky but, I figure I am safe as long as the game machine contains no sensistive data and I remove all forwarding from the router's NAT and turn the machine's firewall back on when I am finished. ![]() I'm pretty certain the problem isn't on my end because, only when I game, I manually forward all the host machine's ports to the external IP number and shut off the machine's firewall. He can join me and play just fine but I can't join him. ![]() I have been able to host games across the Internet too, but only after I adjusted a friend's router and firewall to open the necessary ports on his.īut I must have missed something on his end, because he can't host a game for me to join. Player machines within the LAN can join to a host without any trouble. Behind my router I have a hub connected to my 6 machines. I have a cisco 678 DSL router and I rent a static IP on the Internet from my ISP. Recently my friends and I all got copies of stronghold crusader with the hopes of multiplayer LAN/Internet slugfests. ![]()
